Not so ancient words of wisdom

A friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out:-

He who has a thousand friends has not a friend to spare.

And he who has one enemy will meet him everywhere.

You can fool all the people some of the time

You can fool some of the people all of the time

But you can't fool all of the people all of the time

Be not the fourth friend to him who had three before and lost them

A little nonsense, now and then, is relished by the wisest men

Life is a mixture of good days and bad, victory and defeat, give and take

There are no such things as marriage ties. The wife always wins.

He who loses his temper usually loses.
